I can't even begin to write about my summer, so I guess I should start at the beginning. I moved out of my mom's house back in April, out of the suburbs and back into Vancouver. Since then I've been waiting tables at a sushi restaurant that lets me book shows there sometimes. My band played Shout Back festival at the end of August. It's a 4 day long DIY festival held in Vancouver, filled with sick feminist bands!

TEENAGE KICKS
Boy do I ever look moody today, I've been waiting for people to get up for almost 3 hrs now. I'm going to see a few different bands tonight. I have to make the most of my Saturday because I was sick yetserday. So I started working on a song and made a new blog post and now I'm basically chain smoking waiting for the day to begin.

BLACK LABEL BEACH PARTY
About 2 months ago my friend Christa approached me about putting an event on at this new venue she's helping out with, of course I said yes because hello that would be so much fun. We got into talking and figured it should have something to do with girl-guts and how our focus is shifting more on local and music things, plus we decided for Valentine's Day and GG just suits the mood so well.
I kinda blurted on the phone while we were talking that I wanted my band to play, what I neglected to mention was I didn't actually have a band.
So I got together some friends and practiced a lot and we did our very first show earlier this month!

YOUR SHIT SUCKS
Yay I finally have photoshop on my new laptop, I haven't been able to use it since September, thus the lack in quality posts lately.
I've kept sorta not really busy in the past month or so. Christmas and New Years were fun, I had the flu for a big part of it though which was a bummer but didn't stop me from going out too many nights! Next month I'm putting together a show on the day after Valentine's day, I'm very excited and scared! So much planning that I didn't really expect, but I like it. I like having projects to focus on, it's just the part of following through that I get hung up on, oops.
So I'm putting together my own band for the show because why not? The B-52's played their very first show on Valentine's day and they're my favourite band, I've envisioned myself playing my first show on Valentine's day as well, it works out nicely this way! Also the show is going to be a fundraiser for a girl-guts zine!!! aaahhhhh!!!
Anyway, I wore this to band practice last night and since no one saw me but Alex, I wore this again today. Outfit repeater, everyone's guilty.
sweater - forever 21, shirt and shorts - thrifted, tights so old i can't remember, tie - gift
I made a really cool playlist that everyone should check out, you know if you're into good music that is.
As well as a pretty cool outfit on polyvore, see I'm totally doing stuff. No, I'm making things on the internet so I don't have to stress about the show that's in less than a month!

FAREWELL DEAR ALBATROSS
I've just had two cups of coffee, and after one I get a little weird. I'm not going to get into the details of our trip, but here's an outfit from the past week!
It was my friend Aylssa's 22nd birthday on Sunday so we went out for nachos and sangria at Foundation! Emily and I decided to dress to the 9's, but I'm having a problem putting outfits together so I wore a t-shirt.

Ghouls and Ghosts
Halloween was the best! I loved every minute of the week, minus when I was working. I suck at bringing my camera out, plus I lost my flash so I relied on other people to take pictures and shitty webcam pix.
Friday Jody and I worked on my costume all day, but it wasn't ready for the night so I quickly threw on a bunch of black stuff and went as a goth. Pathetic, I know. I had on a giant black tinsel spiderweb, it looked like I was black Christmas. Met up with friends to go to 360 Glen, a night of covers of course! The Minutemen, David Bowie, B-52's (!!!), and a lot more but we had to leave half way through the B-52's set sadly. Seriously so sad about missing my favourite (cover) band, but the thing didn't start till 1, and people gotta sleep/work.
Saturday night was the big night. We finally finished my costume, and Jody's. We headed over to a house show for more cover bands!! I got super intoxicated and only remember Peaches and Britney Spears covers, then ending up at another party across the street.
Everyone thought I was a unicorn, or Nicki Minaj, or Katy fucking Perry. I was cotton candy, goddamnit!
Once I'd gotten completely inebriated the wig had a hard time staying up, plus it was pouring rain so my cone that I worked so hard on had completely folded over and I ended up looking more like a pink smurf.
Sunday and Monday I stayed home and recovered. Then Tuesday I was back out there! I hadn't thought much about costumes for the actual week of Halloween, so I quickly whipped up a Heather Chandler costume for a show at The Astoria on Tuesday.
I couldn't find any corn nuts.
That costume was fun, but no one knew who I was. Sadly I'm used to this.
Wednesday night I had work and didn't plan my costume before I went to work so I used what I had at work to make a Laura Palmer costume. I think I slay costumes on the go.

Notice the mess of skeleton and fluff stuff we left around Jody's place, pretty sure it still hasn't been cleaned up. Oops.

An Honest Weekend
Last weekend Jody and Vicky came over for fittings, we had a shoot to do the next day. Jody came over and I bleached the inside layers of her hair and dyed them blue/purple. We went over to their new house and watched My So-Called Life because they have American Netflix, which is amazing.
toque - thirfted, scarf - forever 21, skeleton sweater - DIY, pants - from paige, shoes - army and navy
On Saturday we headed downtown to an outdoor show on possibly the last day of real summer. It was beautiful and warm out and the bands were really good. Plus I had a pizza sub from Subway, it was yummy! I had to leave the show early to get to work on time though, which was sad, I missed jelly boyz.
Sunday was the day of the shoot, I'm not going to say much about it, we're just waiting for the rest of the film to be developed and then I'll be putting up all the photos on girl-guts. But I'll leave you with these two previews which I'm sure you've already seen on tumblr.
